National Anglican/Methodist Covenant
The two Churches in the village celebrated the National Anglican/Methodist Covenant by holding a joint service on Saturday 1st November, the day the covenant was signed. The service began in All Saints, the Anglican church, where a copy of the covenant signed by the village Anglicans was handed over by Churchwarden, Roy Lewis, to Methodist Steward, Pat Winter. The congregation then moved to the Methodist church where Pat handed a village Methodist copy of the covenant to Roy and where the covenant was marked by the sharing of communion/Eucharist which was presided over by the Methodist minister, John Rowe, assisted by John Allan, the vicar, and by Mike Hicks, the Methodist Church’s Lay Worker.
That the co-operation involved on that occasion was not a “one-off” event has been clear from two ensuing occasions in November.
First on Remembrance Sunday, 9th November, Worship in the Anglican Church and Commemoration at the village War Memorial
And, secondly, on 30th November there was a pulpit exchange with John Allan preaching and leading worship in the Alrewas Methodist Church, John Rowe preaching and leading worship in All Saints and Mike Hicks doing likewise in St. Stephen’s, the Anglican Church in the neighbouring village of Fradley. The Anglicans got a ‘two-for-one’
